As 2021 comes to a close, we at Badger Canyon Farm have the opportunity to reflect on all that has happened here on the farm this past year.
• Our alpaca herd continues to grow. We welcomed 5 new cria to the farm (3 boys & 2 girls). With their proven, exceptional genetics we are excited to watch them grow and develop. We also purchased 2 new breeding females (Emiri from Crescent Moon Ranch and Adaline from Liberty Alpacas) and one new herdsire (Ellis from Liberty Alpacas).
• In our first year of alpaca showing, two of our alpacas, Gracie and Laszlo, brought home reserve color champion ribbons.
• We successfully had some of our alpaca fiber processed at a fiber mill, where it was transformed into luxurious skeins of yarn. Keep your eye on the store as we update it with handwoven creations made from this beautiful yarn.
• Our two llama cria from 2020 (Corona and Gandalf) started their pack training this year. Hopefully we can get them onto some back country trails in the upcoming year.
• To add some genetic diversity to our chicken flock, we introduced a few new breeds to the coop including Swedish Flowers and Orpingtons.
• Sadly, we lost our honey bee colony this year. As with most farming, there is always something new to learn from each experience, and we will persevere and start again.
We are excited to see what 2022 has in store. New cria, more shows, llama treks, stunning products and new friends.
